“Do you smell that?” I said as slid into bed. My husband, Jeff, and I were settling in for the night after another long days work remodeling our kitchen. We had just moved into our first home a few months ago.

I got out of bed and followed my nose right down to one of the heating vents. “Ugh, Jeff, you have to come smell this. I think there might be a dead animal in one of our vents.”
Together we shoved a towel into the vent in order to get a decent night of sleep and decided to deal with the problem in the morning.

Jeff started by calling one of his old friends who worked in HVAC to ask if it was in fact possible that something could be dead inside our ductwork. We were surprised to learn that smells coming out of heating and cooling vents are usually related to plumbing problems, not HVAC. So naturally, Jeff called a plumber to come inspect our home’s plumbing system for probable causes.

Two men arrived at the house with a load of video plumbing inspection equipment. They approached us after the inspection with solemn faces. “Your main sewer line is severely compromised,” they said. In order to get to the part of the pipe that needs to be fixed, we’ll have to jack hammer the floor here.”
They were standing in the middle of our living room.

“We may even have to jackhammer the floor in the adjacent room as well,” they said. Jeff and I looked at one another uneasily – not our sun room! “And, part of the deck may need to be removed as well…” At that point, I think I almost saw my husband cry for the first time in our 7 years together.
How were we going to pay to remodel the rooms after the damage, let alone pay to fix the broken pipes in the first place? Since we’d just moved in, we’d used our only extra savings to remodel the kitchen. We had nothing set aside for this.

We let the men out and sat in silence for a long time. Panic was setting in.
Fortunately, Jeff is a very determined individual. And, he was determined that we wouldn’t let this issue become financial devastation. He started researching, calling more plumbers for second opinions, and reading forums of families that’d experienced similar problems.

Eventually, he stumbled upon Invisible Excavations. They’d be able to fix the pipes without digging up our living room and sunroom, and without destroying our deck. In other words, we wouldn’t have the added cost of fixing our home after we fixed the pipes below it. Intrigued by this idea of trenchless sewer repair, or sewer pipe relining, we invited Invisible Excavations to our home to learn more.

The day Invisible Excavations came out to our home, we knew we’d made the right choice. They were the first plumbing company to actually walk us through what we were seeing in the pipe inspection video, to thoroughly and confidently explain the problem, and to discuss the best solutions. Their dedicated time and level of experience was unparalleled by the plumbers who had come before.

Desperate to be free of the terrible smell coming through our vents, we asked Invisible Excavations how quickly they could start.

They were in and out of our home in just three days. All of the crew were very polite, and kept their work area in our home very clean. We couldn’t stop raving to our friends and family how thankful we were to have found Invisible Excavations – they helped us through a rough time.

Hopefully we’ll never need to use them again for a problem like this, but if the day ever comes, we’ll definitely hire them again without a moment’s hesitation.
